Speakers/Seminars:

Nathan J. Winograd - Keynote/Building A No Kill Community:
He is the Director of the national No Kill Advocacy Center. He is a graduate of Stanford Law School, a former criminal prosecutor and attorney, held a variety of leadership positions including director of operations for the San Francisco SPCA and executive director of the Tompkins County SPCA, two of the most successful shelters in the nation. He has spoken nationally and internationally on animal sheltering issues, has written animal protection legislation at the state and national level, has created successful No Kill programs in both urban and rural communities, and has consulted with a wide range of animal protection groups including some of the largest and best known in the nation. Nathan is the author of three books, Redemption, Irreconcilable Differences, and All American Vegan (co-written with his wife, Jennifer). Redemption won five national book awards and redefined the animal protection movement in the United States.

“Millions of healthy animals are [killed] in shelters every year. Nathan Winograd wants that reduced to zero… Winograd is helping to save thousands, even millions.” – Reader’s Digest.

“ In 2003, the Tompkins County SPCA saved 100% of all healthy, friendly dogs and cats, 100% of treatable sick and injured animals, and 100% of feral cats. Overall, 93% of dogs and cats were saved’…. This amazing result was accomplished by an “open-door” agency that also contracts to perform animal control. Credit for saving so many cat and dog lives rests squarely on the shoulders of Nathan Winograd.” – The No Kill Nation.

“The world owes much to those rare individuals who see things differently – and who then devote themselves to vindicating their maverick conclusions.” – The Bark.

Nathan will share his expertise with you and answer your individual questions.

Michael Mountain - How to Build Your Membership and Communicate with Your Members – the heart of successful fundraising for shelters, sanctuaries, rescue and advocacy groups:  "He is the retired past president and co-founder of Best Friends Animal Society. In the early 1990s, Best Friends — the nation’s largest sanctuary for abused and abandoned animals — became the flagship of the new no-kill movement. At that time, more than 15 million dogs and cats were being killed in shelters every year, and the prevailing wisdom was that this was simply a “necessary evil” for which there was no solution. As founding editor of Best Friends magazine and then www.bestfriends.org, Michael pioneered the campaign to save homeless pets, driving a grassroots no-kill movement that would transform the humane establishment. By the end of the 1990s, the number of pets being killed in shelters had dropped to below 5 million annually."  Michaels current venture is Zoe, a media organization for people who care about animals and the world of nature. He will share his expertise with you and answer your individual questions.

Ryan Clinton - No Kill Advocacy and Successful Shelter Reform : He is the Director of Fix Austin, an organization that was instrumental in Austin, TX becomming the largest No Kill community in the United States. He continues to work to reduce rates of shelter killing at Town Lake Animal Control and surrounding shelters, and he is a Board Member of the Central Texas Animal Alliance. He is a former Texas Assistant Solicitor General.  Ryan will share his expertise with you and answer your individual questions.

One jam-packed day, Saturday, March 24, 2012 including 5 of the most prominent, diverse speakers from the No Kill movement who have achieved outstanding success in raising the bar for saving the lives of companion animals in their communities and states and in some cases, across the United States.  They have in many cases completely inverted their communitys companion animal kill rate from 90% down to 10% or less.  Through passion and creative ingenuity they have all utilized various components of the No Kill Equation to achieve the highest pet adoption rates in the country, the highest compliance rates for No Kill legislation, the transformation of complete departments of Animal Welfare Services into some of the most popular and highly regarding agencies among the public, financial donors and volunteers.  We will also have a strong component focused on Fundraising, a necessary key to the success of any rescue or animal welfare effort.  So many people, groups and organizations are doing wonderful work but the success of that work can be elevated with sustainable revenue to allow your operation to save more lives.
